The 21th Kerulien International Conference on Geology and 2019 High-Level Forum on Synergic Development of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei in Ecological and Geological Environment, a important academic conference in geology, was successfully held in Hebei GEO University from October 25 to 26, 2019. Over 200 delegates from China, Russia, Mongolia and Canada gathered on HGU campus, sharing insights on the theme of Research Progress on Deep Geological Process and Ecological Environment.
The opening ceremony of the conference
This conference was initiated by Hebei GEO University, Irkutsk National Research Technical University, Mongolian University of Science and Technology and geological societies of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei. There were 11 topics, including regional geological evolution of Central Asia, the future and ecological and geological environment of Xiongan, geo-science cooperation and key issues of the ‘Belt and Road’ countries, deep geological process and exploring technology, water resources and environment, hydrogeology, engineering geology, environmental geology and ecological civilization, exploration and evaluation of geothermal resources, the economy and administration of resource and environment, large geological data and information service and other related areas. Thirteen world famous specialists were invited to deliver speeches, 46 specialists and scholars gave presentation. The conference aims to explore the deep mysteries of the earth, promote the harmonious development of human and nature and boost international exchange and cooperation.
On October 25, the opening ceremony of the conference was held in Chunqiu Lecture Hall. The guests who attended including Li Tingdong, member of CAS, Wang Bingchen, senior counselor of the State Council, Wu Qiang, member of CAE, Mao Jingwen, member of CAE, Liu Jiaqi, member of CAS, Wang Guiling, Foreign member of Russian Academy of Natural Science, Larisa Rapatckaia, professor of Irkutsk National Research Technical University, Ochir Gerel, professor of Mongolian University of Science and Technology, and other famous specialists, scholars, enterprises’ delegates, alumni and teachers and students.
President Wang Fengming is delivering the opening remarks
Wang Fengming, president of HGU, delivered a speech during the opening ceremony. He gave a brief introduction of HGU, stressed that 2019 is the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China as well as the establishment of diplomatic relationship between China and Russia, and China and Mongolia. This year is also the 45 anniversary of the founding of Kerulien International Geological Expedition Organization. In this special year, the exchange and cooperation of international geology, the development of regional ecological and geological environment, the discovery and innovation of geological talents cultivation will surely be promoted, the relationship between us will surely be enhanced and a new situation for geological education and research will also be created.

Professor Gerel and Professor Rapatckaia gave speeches, respectively. They both said that their countries, Russia and Mongolia, are important participants and partners of the Belt and Road Initiative, and they believed that this conference would make a contribution to the protection of the earth.
The closing ceremony was held on October 26. Over 260 specialists and scholars from universities, research institutes and geological institutes of China, Russia, Mongolia and Canada attended the ceremony.
Professor Hu Huabin from HGU concluded the 21st Kerulien International conference on Geology, he spoke highly of the result of the conference and regarded it as a great opportunity to enhance the relationship between the scholars from China, Russia and Mongolia, and to boost the development geology in Central Asia.
Yu Chunlin, secretary general of the Geological Society of Beijing, concluded the 2019 High-Level Forum on Synergic Development of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei in Ecological and Geological Environment, saying that this conference made great contribution to the geological work of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, showing the irreplaceable role of geology in the city’s building and development.
Professor Yuan Ying from HGU concluded the Young Scholars Forum, saying that this conference largely expanded the horizons of the young scholars attended. Meanwhile, the exchange and communication during the conference also boosted the promotion and improvement of the latest technology in geology.
Yu Kaining read out the result of the Youth Excellent Report Award, and the awards were presented by Professor Niu Shuyin, the winner of the 16th Li Siguang Geology Award.

Wang Bin, vice-president of HGU delivered the closing remarks. He said that the 21th Kerulien International Conference on Geology and 2019 High-Level Forum on Synergic Development of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei in Ecological and Geological not only showed the latest achievement in Central and Eastern Asia, promoted the cooperation between different countries on geological prospecting, but also enhanced the exchange and communication in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei on ecological environmental geology, promoted the research on deep geological process and ecological environment and provided a opportunity for scholars and researchers from different countries to exchange and communicate. In the end, Wang Bin expressed sincere gratitude to all the academicians, leaders, specialists and scholars, staff and volunteers for their attending and supporting.
